Agitators torch medicine-laden truck

Birgunj, Nov 20: The agitators of the Untied Democratic Madheshi Front here have set ablaze a truck ferrying medicines worth Rs 2 million.

The agitators razed the truck (Na 2 Kha 8292) yesterday night at 1:00 in front of National Trading Limited Office at Om Ashram in Birgunj, according to the District Police Office, Parsa.

The truck was transporting medicines from Birgunj to Janakpur.

Meanwhile, the agitators have been demonstrating in various places of the district, including, Nagawa, Ghantaghar, Bus Park among others.

Although the Front had relaxed their agitation in view of Tihar and Chhath, the agitators started tightening the noose of their agitation since today morning, police said.

They have restricted the vehicular movements in the cities, it is learnt.

FBI Acknowledges ISIS Threat for WWE Survivor Series

Following the release of a report that ISIS may be planning a terrorist attack Sunday in Atlanta at Philips Arena during WWE’s Survivor Series event, the FBI reportedly acknowledged the threat Saturday.

According to Mark Winne of WSB-TV, an FBI source informed him that the threat is being taken seriously.

Despite that, a source told Winne there is no active plot regarding an attack at Survivor Series. The FBI subsequently released a statement to WSB-TV as well:

The FBI is aware of reports of an alleged threat that includes an Atlanta, Georgia venue and event. While we take all threats seriously, we do not have specific or credible information of an attack at this time. We have, however, made the proper notifications as we continue to work closely with our law enforcement and private sector partners to keep our community safe.

News of the potential threat first came to light Saturday in a post by OpParisIntel—which is part of the hacker group Anonymous—on PasteBin.com (h/t IBTimes.com).

Per the post, intelligence suggests ISIS may be planning further attacks in Paris as well as attacks in Italy, Lebanon and Indonesia on Sunday.

“WWE Survivor Series is currently scheduled as planned while we investigate the matter with federal, state and local authorities,” WWE said in a statement, per Liz Mullen of Sports Business Journal.

According to CNN.com, at least 128 people were killed and many more were injured in a terrorist attack in Paris last week.

Per WSBTV.com, Winne reported that Georgia Emergency Management Agency director Jim Butterworth is in contact with the FBI regarding the threat at Survivor Series.

“His agency is working closely with the FBI, the Georgia information sharing and analysis center and others in evaluating the threat on a Sunday WWE event in Atlanta reported by the group Anonymous,” Winne said.

Details surrounding the threat are scarce, but plans remain in place for Survivor Series to move forward Sunday night.

UN Secretary General calls for lifting blockade

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has once again underlined Nepal’s right to free transit and urged all sides to end the blockade at border checkpoints.

“The Secretary-General underlines his growing concern over the blocking of essential supplies on the Nepal-India border,” read a statement attributed to Ban’s official spokesperson, issued by UN Headquarters yesterday.

This is the second time the UN chief has officially called all stakeholders to end the protracted disruption of supplies across the Nepal-India border.

Ban, on November 10, had also expressed deep concern about the humanitarian crisis Nepal has been facing due to the blockade and disruption of essential supplies, including medicine and fuel.

The Secretary-General made this latest call after the agitating Madhesi front destroyed cargo freights carrying life-saving medicine and set an ambulance carrying an ailing child on fire yesterday.

“He is alarmed by reports of the obstruction and destruction of life-saving medical supplies and the continued impact on humanitarian operations,” Ban’s spokesperson added. Ban also called on all sides to lift these restrictions without f, according to the statement.

UN Convention on Transit Trade

As per the UN Convention on Transit Trade of Land-locked States, it’s the obligation of the transit countries to provide unhindered access for transport of goods to any land-locked country like Nepal up to the sea ports.

Ahead of planned protests on November 21, Ban further stressed the importance of dialogue and non-violence, as well as respect for peaceful protest and the freedom of assembly.

He urged all sides to resolve their differences in a peaceful manner and reiterated the support of the United Nations to Nepal’s efforts to build a democratic, inclusive, peaceful and prosperous future.

“One should not lose restraint and conscience in any agitation. No solution is sought by vandalizing the house of senior leaders at political leadership. Such incident further aggravates the situation,” the press statement reads.
